چکیده

We study bottleneck routing games where the social cost is determined by the worst congestion on any edge in the network. Bottleneck games have been studied in the literature by having the player’s utility costs to be determined by the worst congested edge in their paths. However, the Nash equilibria of such games are inefficient since the price of anarchy can be very high with respect to the parameters of the game. In order to obtain smaller price of anarchy we explore exponential bottleneck games where the utility costs of the players are exponential functions on the congestion of the edges in their paths. We find that exponential bottleneck games are very efficient giving a poly-log bound on the price of anarchy: O(log L · log |E|), where L is the largest path length in the players strategy sets and E is the set of edges in the graph.

Bottleneck Congestion Games with Logarithmic Price of Anarchy

We study bottleneck routing games where the social cost is determined by the worst congestion on any edge in the network. In the literature, bottleneck games assume player utility costs determined by the worst congested edge in their paths. However, the Nash equilibria of such games are inefficient since the price of anarchy can be very high and proportional to the size of the network. In order...

Polynomial Bottleneck Congestion Games with Optimal Price of Anarchy

We study bottleneck congestion games where the social cost is determined by the worst congestion of any resource. These games directly relate to network routing problems and also job-shop scheduling problems. In typical bottleneck congestion games, the utility costs of the players are determined by the worst congested resources that they use. However, the resulting Nash equilibria are inefficie...

Risk premiums and certainty equivalents of loss-averse newsvendors of bounded utility

Loss-averse behavior makes the newsvendors avoid the losses more than seeking the probable gains as the losses have more psychological impact on the newsvendor than the gains. In economics and decision theory, the classical newsvendor models treat losses and gains equally likely, by disregarding the expected utility when the newsvendor is loss-averse. Moreover, the use of unbounded utility to m...

Efficient graph topologies in network routing games

A topology is efficient for network games if, for any game over it, every Nash equilibrium is socially optimal. It is well known that many topologies are not efficient for network games. We characterize efficient topologies in network games with a finite set of players, each wishing to transmit an atomic unit of unsplittable flow. We distinguish between two classes of atomic network routing gam...

Bottleneck Routing with Elastic Demands

Bottleneck routing games are a well-studied model to investigate the impact of selfish behavior in communication networks. In this model, each user selects a path in a network for routing their fixed demand. The disutility of a used only depends on the most congested link visited. We extend this model by allowing users to continuously vary the demand rate at which data is sent along the chosen ...
